Direct Access Scheme (D.A.S.)
Direct access is a scheme which allows a person over the age of 21 to avoid the two year/25 kW restriction by taking a test on a machine of at least 35 kW (46.6 bhp). After C.B.T you will ,when ready , be converted from a 125cc to a 500cc bike (see left).
All subsequent training to test standard will be on this type of bike. A pass allows you to ride any size of bike.
Then the fun begins.

Kawasaki ER-5 as used for D.A.S. training
With the DAS course you must first complete CBT then pass the motorcycle Theory Test before attempting the Practical Test.
If you are Under 21 or maybe don’t want to ride a large motorbike immediately , there are other options available.
The main one is that of the Restricted Licence .
This still requires C.B.T ,the theory test to be completed before attempting the practical test.
The main difference is that all training and testing is completed on a 125cc bike(see right).
On passing the practical test , this then allows you to ride up to a 33bhp bike for 2 years. After this “apprenticeship”
Your licence would automatically become a full motorcycle type licence without restriction.
